Severance Family Growing

Perhaps the biggest news/event from the Severance Family is not what has happened in the last year, but what is expected to happen this fall. They are family portrait, april 2004expecting another baby. Alan comments, “Davy is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I’m looking forward to another kid.”

They got the news just in time to announce it at Christmas and have since found out that it will be a boy. Lisa has suffered from the normal discomforts of pregnancy, but she and the baby are healthy and doing well.
When Davy is asked if mama can bring a baby home he simply replies, “no-ooo,” like it is a really silly idea but Davy’s mom believes he is going to make the best big brother.

The family looks forward to the beginning of August, when the baby is due, and will inform everyone of his arrival.

Davy, Davy, Davy

Davy is growing up, as children do very quickly. “I don’t know where the last year went. All of a sudden Davy is two!” his mom says.

Davy, blue eyes, blond curly hair, tall, slender, and cute, enjoys being read to and watching his cartoons. He is developing the typical little boy interests including construction trucks, dinosaurs and animals. He also likes to talk on the telephone. He is a very social child and tends to make friends wherever he goes.

Many of Davy’s extended family lives close – including cousins and three sets of grandparents. They are all very lucky to live so close to each other and have frequently day adventures together. Davy has been to the zoo several times, the aquarium, which led to one of his first words - “fish,” and a children’s museum. He spends a lot of time at Grandma Klink’s house - both with and without his mom. Grandma’s house has some wonderful space to run and play ball.

Davy has started learning his colors, shapes, counting and ABC’s. “He never ceases to amaze me,” his mom comments. “He is verbalizing new words everyday and with just a little bit of teaching, he has begun to take the initiative and point out the concepts - like counting steps as we walk down them or telling me the color of a shirt.”

Davy’s parents are very proud of him and Lisa has created a web site as a way to share him with everyone. You can see hundreds of pictures of Davy on his web site - www.SeveranceWeb.com/Davy .

Alan At Work & Play

Northern CO – The job market for Alan in Northern Colorado is still poor. Fortunately, he has not suffered any layoffs. He is good at what he does, but does not always like the job positions and he is definitely underemployed.

One thing Alan has done to take advantage of his geek-ness is to set up a web and e-mailer service at home. He will be the Systems Administrator in Lisa’s web design business. And now that this area has high speed internet, they can offer quality, personable web hosting services.
Alan continues with his urban exploration hobby. His explorations have taken him to an abandon mine, an old airport control tower and abandon missile silos. In some cases more time is spent researching a site and maybe an initially trip only to discover that it is inaccessible, but it is all part of the fun.

There is an international urban exploration internet community that shares adventures. Alan enjoys maintaining a web site of his group’s exploits (www.subciety.org). He

has even gotten some recognition for the hobby. There was a article in the Denver WestWard paper. It was a very humorous and well written article. Apparently there is also a television series starting that does urban exploration trips around the country and even asked Alan if he would be interested in being the host. Alan says, “hosting the show would have been great, but this is just a part-time hobby I indulge in around my family’s needs.”

Lisa At Home & Work

At Home, CO – Lisa really enjoys being a stay-at-home mom. “I don’t want my kids in daycare. I just feel nobody can care for them as well as family,” Lisa says. She takes Davy to the library for story time and does various other activities that a job would not allow.

Lisa has pursued a couple ideas that have allowed her to remain a stay-at-home mom, but also pursue her interests and talents while being quasi employed. She taught some children’s arts & crafts classes at a couple local recreation centers. She also offered classes for parents/ childcare givers on making educational games. “While it was something that I really loved doing,” Lisa comments, “there was just not enough participants for me to justify all the time, energy and effort I was investing.”

Her latest endeavor is starting a home based web design business. She aced a class in internet publishing and is currently setting up her business. She hopes to have a solid foundation and be open for business by January 2005. “I’ve inherited creativity from my mom and engineer-type-process thinking from my dad,” Lisa states, “I think that’ll make a successful combination for web designing.” Visit her business on-line: www.Web-Rainbow.com
